While we didn’t get a lot of the Joker in Suicide Squad, director David Ayer has gone on to engage with fans online to divulge hints, Easter Eggs, and tidbits that people have found since the film’s release in 2016. Now the baby clothes in the scene with Joker surrounded by all of the knives isn’t an Easter Egg or sudden discovery. In fact, it’s in plain sight. And fans have surmised that their inclusion had something to do with Harley Quinn. And indeed, that’s the case, according to the director, who said as much yesterday online.

On Twitter, a fan had asked why David Ayer would include baby clothes in the Joker scene. Ayer himself was not tagged in the conversation, under the assumption that, as a big profile name, he probably would not respond. Not an impossible rationale, mind you. However, when Ayer was tagged in a later tweet, the Suicide Squad director did eventually enter the conversation to confirm that the baby clothes in the Joker scene includes a onesie worn by the baby in Harley Quinn’s dream sequence, as seen in the image below:

In the last battle with Enchantress, she showed the villains visions of lives they wanted to live, such as Deadshot being the one to kill Batman. With Harley Quinn, it’s the idea of a normal life with Joker. As normal as you can get with the Joker, anyway. But have a look at David Ayer’s response to the Suicide Squad question in the tweet below:

Admittedly, given how busy both Harley Quinn and Joker are, not to mention the shenanigans that Harley will no doubt get into with the upcoming Birds of Prey film, she probably won’t get to have that fantasy or dream come to life anytime soon, but time will tell. And again, while not a new discovery with the baby clothes, at least David Ayer did clarify when it came to the inclusion of them in the scene.

Had you already seen the baby clothes in the Joker scene in Suicide Squad? And what do you think that could mean for Joker and Harley’s future now that they’re both free and out of Waller’s grasp? Let us know in the comments below.
