Suicide Squad director David Ayer confirmed a fan theory about Jared Leto’s Joker on Twitter.

Although fans might not see the return of Jared Leto’s Joker anytime soon, Suicide Squad director David Ayer recently endorsed a fan theory about the villain’s backstory with Ben Affleck’s Batman. Fans have long debated the meaning behind the Clown Prince of Crime’s tattoos, with many assuming that some of them relate to the death of Robin as well as his relationship with Harley Quinn.

According to the fan theory, Jared Leto’s Joker had the word “damaged” tattooed on his forehead because Batman knocked out his teeth in revenge for killing Robin. So the theory suggests that just by seeing the word on his head, Batman will be even more infuriated by seeing the villain. The Suicide Squad director succinctly confirmed the suggestion with a brief  “Exactly.” Take a look below.

What do you think about the Joker tattoo relating to Ben Affleck’s Batman? Do you think we should’ve seen more from their history? Sound-off in the comments below!

The first Suicide Squad followed a team of supervillains who were recruited by the government for a dangerous black ops mission in exchange for reduced sentences. The ensemble cast included Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Jared Leto as The Joker. However, James Gunn is expected to deliver on the fresh take on the Suicide Squad in his upcoming movie.

Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars David Dastmalchian, John Cena, Jai Courtney, Joaquín Cosío, Nathan Fillion, Joel Kinnaman, Mayling Ng, Flula Borg, Sean Gunn, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, Pete Davidson, Taika Waititi, Alice Braga, Steve Agee, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior, Peter Capaldi, Julio Ruiz, Jennifer Holland, Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Margot Robbie, and Michael Rooker.

The Suicide Squad will be released in theaters on August 6, 2021. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for more news on the upcoming DC film, and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel.
