‘Suicide Squad’ Defies The Odds; 150M Opening Weekend Projected

imageThe Squad has landed and they are crushing the Box Office. Suicide Squad landed a B+ Cinemascore. This puts it in a better position with audiences than its DC Films predecessor. Batman v Superman landed a B Cinemascore and didn’t really sit well with the audiences. Squad is also doing better with females. It landed an A- CinemaScope with women. So, Suicide Squad just may have some luck.

Suicide Squad is currently blasting past low box office expectations. As of Friday night it grossed $65.1 million. It is projected to end up somewhere between $145 – $150 million. This is more than previous August release Guardians of the Galaxy and the recent February hit Deadpool.

What did you guys think of Suicide Squad? Sound off in the comments section.

It feels good to be bad…Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?

Suicide Squad is Directed by David Ayer and stars Will Smith as Deadshot, Jared Leto as The Joker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.

Suicide Squad is in theaters everywhere now.

Too bad its chances of makin’ a billion is pretty much nil, though. China has banned it, and bad word of mouth will probably derail its’ momentum…But hey, there’s always 2017 for dceu to make another bid to be inducted into the hallowed halls of the Billion Dollar Club.

  • flavortang

YEAH! I really wish I could see it this weekend but have to wait until Wednesday. I am so damn hyped. Very much looking forward to see it!

    • SAMURAI36

And very well you should be. Having seen it twice (3rd time coming this week), I am giving it a solid 8/10, possibly 8.5/10. BVS is still my fave DCEU film, bit SS is fighting with MOS for my 2nd fave.
F&¢k what the critics & DC haters say about this film. You will NOT be disappointed.

“While this opening could very easily translate into a weekend right around Mojo’s forecasted $145 million, recent history suggests an opening closer to $138 million is a more likely scenario.”

    HH always oversells DC.

    • SAMURAI36

Still hating, I see. Not surprised at all.

      • Carl

Really? I didn’t know using a quote to prove something wrong was hating.

Which website is more credible for box office predictions, Heroic Hollywood or Box Office Mojo?

        • Orion

Prove something wrong? You mean an educated guess versus another educated guess?

          • SAMURAI36

Precisely. He’s just talking stupid as usual.

          • Carl

            Nope.

          • Carl

No I mean an educated, experienced guess versus a novice, biased one.

          • Orion

But a lot of other sites are reporting similarly. Its nothing to do with bias, probably high end expectations though.

        • SAMURAI36

First off, HH got the info from another site, which happened to get the numbers from Deadline. So there goes your “overselling DC” nonsense.

Second, you act like there’s a huge difference in the numbers. It’s only a $7M difference in the projection. I could see if they project a $200M opening, & it only made $30M. But given the positive buzz for the film, it could quite easily male that $7M, & then some.

But the reality is, you were hoping or this film to fail, & it’s not. This, the only failure here, is you, as per usual.

          • Carl

The article was titled with $150+ m, looks like they changed that and backed off on it. That was the part I was saying was wrong.

        • Peter James

“Really? I didn’t know using a quote to prove something wrong was hating.”

          You didn’t actually “prove” anything.

You merely used SPECULATION from one source that you deem credible to dispute SPECULATION from another that you deem less so.

Actual PROOF or PROVING something wrong would involve evidence based on calculation with concrete results (i.e,… indisputable) and not estimations and projections (Which is what both of these are).

“Projections” and “Estimations” are not PROOF of anything other than the speculation that spawns them.

Learn how to use the English language correctly.

          • Carl

Well we won’t know for sure who is right til tomorrow but I proved that the $150+ mil number is ridiculous. An expert prediction is far better than HH’s novice and biased one.

          • Peter James

            AGAIN!

That is not “PROOF” of anything.

Learn what that word means, for crying out loud.

            You did not PROVE anything.

And expert “prediction” (read : GUESSWORK) is not proof that this movie will definitively make or not make $150 Million or or any other amount.

Did you not take (basic) math or statistics in High School or college?

And it’s already been pointed out to you that HH don’t pull these numbers out of their backsides but rather, most frequently get them from credible sources and places like Deadline Hollywood – who are a respected and well considered source in the Industry.

Are you going to sit there on your fat a$s and claim that Deadline Hollywood are novices or “biased”?

What fvck’s the matter with you?

          • SAMURAI36

What fvck’s the matter with you?

LOL, I’ve been asking him that for the past several months, & have yet to get an answer. Something is seriously wrong with him, though.

          • JMMagwood

LOL He’s a troll. No other explanation needed.

          • Carl

Deadline isn’t saying $150 either. I’m proving that no prediction said that. Just HH.

          • Orion

Deadline says $146 million+ its not that far off.

          • SAMURAI36

Why is this paltry amount of money such a big deal to you? You’ve never been this concerned with the mistakes that HH makes before.
Your slip is showing, Carl. Better run to the ladies room & fix it.

          • Carl

            My slip? What’s that?

Do you really think that HH isn’t biased towards DC?

I want DC to do well just as much as you but I’m not going to just accept bad quality films and act like everything is going well.

You never comment on my positive DC comments. Why?

I’m excited that Metallo might be in Supergirl and can’t wait to see their Superman.

          • SAMURAI36

            My slip? What’s that?

            Look it up.

Do you really think that HH isn’t biased towards DC?

And you are basing that on…. What, exactly?

I want DC to do well just as much as you but I’m not going to just accept bad quality films and act like everything is going well.

You mean, the way you accept any flotsam that Marvel puts out?

You never comment on my positive DC comments. Why?

When you make some comments about DC that aren’t backhanded compliments, then perhaps I’ll engage you in discourse about it. Perhaps.

I’m excited that Metallo might be in Supergirl and can’t wait to see their Superman.

            Good for you.

          • SAMURAI36

Perhaps if you’d actually QUOTED HH, so that people had a clue what you were talking about, it MIGHT have made you look like even less of a fool than you usually do.

          • JMMagwood

lol Nothing would help with that.

          • SAMURAI36

All this, because he’s butthurt over SS being a hit. Such a shame.

          • JMMagwood

Yeah, these odd people have pretty much run their course around here. There are five or six posters around here that I’m just not going to bother with anymore. Engaging with them, in an either combative or respectful nature does little good. If I see someone with a reasonable post with compelling arguments and criticisms of DCEU content, I’ll be glad to chat with them, but the clear trolls are over as far as I’m concerned. They go to see these movies, yet still root for them to fail. How weird is that?

          • Carl

But you look like the fool here for defending a ridiculous prediction that no serious site is making.

          • SAMURAI36

Carl, have you seen the movie yet? Yes or no?

          • Carl

            No. Going tomorrow. Have you?

          • SAMURAI36

            uNo. Going tomorrow.

Then why don’t you be quiet about it for one more day, and then yap about then? Because we all know you’re going to trash talk it as soon as you see it.

            Have you?

SMH, And he says I lack reading comprehension skills….

          • Carl

So I can’t talk about box office projections until after I see a movie?

Sorry, I don’t read everything you write and you’ve never answered me when I asked if you saw it.

          • SAMURAI36

You’re nitpicking. $7-10M is an insignificant amount, and you know it. No one will cry any tears if it doesn’t clear that amount, but apparently you will cry some, if it does.

I’ve already answer the question. More than once. The answer is in this thread.

    • SAMURAI36
      • Carl

Looks like its $135 mil for the weekend, box office mojo and I were right. 😉

Film was amazing really enjoyed it

  • Origami Rose

I’m more curious if there is going to be a huge drop off or not.

    • SAMURAI36

Have you seen the film? That should be on your mind, more so than anything else.

      • Origami Rose

thats not the subject of the discussion. i have watched it and i wish i could get it off my mind cause it was a mess. you happy?

        • SAMURAI36

The film was awesome, so yes, I’m VERY happy. Thanx for asking.
