The Suicide Squad writer/director James Gunn has had discussions with David Ayer about his upcoming film.
On his official Instagram story, James Gunn was holding a special Q&A with his over 1.3 million followers. One of those questions asked him if he had discussed his plans for The Suicide Squad with David Ayer. Here is what James Gunn had to say about the matter:
“David Ayer is a great guy [and] we have discussed and I’ve told him what we’re up to with The Suicide Squad at least a little bit.”
David Ayer directed the first Suicide Squad which hit theaters in 2016. Although James Gunn’s upcoming film has been described as a standalone sequel, there will be the inclusion of numerous characters from David Ayer’s film including Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney’s Captain Boomerang and Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller among others.
Even if The Suicide Squad is expected to stand alone as its own film distinct from the vision of the previous film, it’s nice to hear that James Gunn and David Ayer have had discussions about the new film. It’s also nice to hear that James Gunn considers David Ayer a great guy, and is eager to tell a new Suicide Squad story with some of the characters introduced in the first film.
