The Suicide Squad director James Gunn talked about working with Harley Quinn actress Margot Robbie and the Birds of Prey script.
While James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad will introduce several newcomers to the DC Extended Universe, the upcoming film will also feature some returning favorites, including Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. While production on The Suicide Squad is currently underway, James Gunn managed to find time to answer fan questions on his official Instagram Stories feed and one person asked if the filmmaker has worked with Margot Robbie yet.
In response, James Gunn confirmed that he has worked with Margot Robbie and had high praise for the Harley Quinn actress, saying, “She might be the best actor I’ve ever worked with.” Another fan asked if James Gunn has read the script for Birds of the Prey, the next film to feature Margot Robbie in the role of Harley Quinn, to which The Suicide Squad director simply replied, “Yes.”

The first Suicide Squad followed a team of supervillains who were recruited by the government for a dangerous black ops mission in exchange for reduced sentences. The ensemble cast included Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Jared Leto as The Joker. James Gunn is expected to deliver on the fresh take on the Suicide Squad in his upcoming movie.
Full details on the Birds of Prey plot are currently unknown, though the film is said to center on Huntress, Black Canary, and Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn joining forces to protect Cassandra Cain when she comes into the possession of a diamond belonging to a criminal kingpin known as Black Mask.
Directed by Cathy Yan from a script penned by Bumblebee writer Christina Hodson, Warner Bros.’ Birds of Prey stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain, Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya, Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz, Ewan McGregor as Black Mask, and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Ali Wong, Robert Catrini, and Michael Masini have also been cast in undisclosed roles.
Birds of Prey will be released in theaters on February 7, 2020, while The Suicide Squad will be released in theaters on August 6, 2021.
