The Suicide Squad director James Gunn addressed the idea of a rivalry between Marvel and DC.
With The Suicide Squad currently in production and two Guardians of the Galaxy films under his belt, director James Gunn has had the privilege of helming projects for both the Marvel and DC cinematic worlds. Of course, some fans of both film franchises have continued to fuel the perceived rivalry between Marvel and DC that dates back decades.
However, James Gunn responded to a fan’s question about a Marvel and DC rivalry by noting that he can’t recall anyone at either company condemning the other. According to James Gunn, there’s is likely less competition between Marvel and DC there is between both companies and other films.

While production on Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was scheduled to begin early last year, the project was put on hold following Disney’s decision to remove Gunn as the director of the final chapter in the trilogy. Now, James Gunn will begin production on Marvel Studios’ third Guardians of the Galaxy film after completing work on The Suicide Squad for Warner Bros. and DC. Details on the third chapter of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy are currently unknown, though the film will likely explore the ramifications of the universe-changing events in Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame.
The first Suicide Squad followed a team of supervillains who were recruited by the government for a dangerous black ops mission in exchange for reduced sentences. The ensemble cast included Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Jared Leto as The Joker. James Gunn is expected to deliver on the fresh take on the Suicide Squad in his upcoming movie.
