Next year’s Suicide Squad will break new ground in the superhero blockbuster genre. Not only will it present fans with a radically different version of the Joker, played with what appears to be gleeful abandon by Academy Award winner Jared Leto, but it will also be the first comic book movie to feature a cast of bad guys as the main characters. Task Force X is not composed of nice guys and girls.
Yet even with all that villainy floating around, there’s still seems to be time for love. Fans of the source material are well aware of the very, err, unique relationship between Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and Leto’s Clown Prince of Crime. But it appears as if Suicide Squad will also feature some sort of romance between Will Smith’s Deadshot and Quinn. Smith revealed in a recent interview that his character is keeping an eye on Harley and not for mission purposes.
And why not? Director David Ayer admitted that Harley is trying to escape the Joker’s influence in Suicide Squad so it’s only fair for her to find a new plaything.
“The New 52” DC Comics Universe has delved into these types of dealings before, with sparks flying between Harley and Deadshot. That is sure to set up some conflict between Smith’s character and the Joker which will undoubtedly play out in Suicide Squad. But Smith suggested that this Deadshot may not be looking for a fight as he opened up about where the character is when he is first introduced in the film.
Interesting, very interesting. These teases have set up the primary characters nicely and given fans just enough information to peak their interest without spoiling anything too big. We’ll have to wait until Aug. 5, 2016 to get the full scope.
