‘Supergirl’: Carlos Bernard Cast As Maggie Sawyer’s Dad In Season 3

Supergirl Melissa Benoist

Interestingly, despite Floriana Lima being downgraded from regular to recurring character status, Supergirl will explore her character, Maggie Sawyer’s, family ties. 24 actor, Carlos Bernard, has been cast in the role of Maggie’s estranged father, Oscar, in the superhero series’ third season.

Bernard’s character will have the same profession as his daughter: he’s a cop. He will be re-entering his daughter’s life, even though we don’t yet know the exact reasons behind his sudden appearance.

In the second season, we learned a bit about Maggie’s family history. When they learned that she was a lesbian, they weren’t exactly onboard and instead of being accepting, they kicked her out of the house. I’m sure the presence of Maggie’s dad will surely cause some tension, although here’s hoping that they will be able to reconcile in time for Alex and Maggie’s possible wedding (we don’t know if Maggie’s accepted Alex’s proposal yet).

Ridding National City of Queen Rhea and her Daxamite army was a major win for Supergirl, but one that came at a significant cost, as Kara was forced to sacrifice her budding relationship with Mon-El. When season three returns with all-new supercharged adventures this fall on The CW, Kara and team will come up against a new threat in the form of DC Worldkiller, Reign.

Supergirl season three will premiere on Monday, October 9 at 8/7c on The CW.
