We recently found out that the Man of Steel would be returning to the small screen for the first two episodes of the second season of Supergirl and now we finally know who will be playing him as Entertainment Weekly has revealed that Teen Wolf star Tyler Hoechlin has landed the coveted role on the CW series.

The actor will make his debut as Clark Kent aka Superman in the season two premiere when the show returns this fall. Plot details are being kept under wraps, so the only thing we know right now is that he will be visiting his cousin Kara in National City for an unknown reason. The character has actually made an appearance in the show before, but we never got to see his face except for that time we got to meet his younger self.

Here’s what executive producer Andrew Kreisberg had to say about the casting:

“Greg [Berlanti] and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman. We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character.”

What do you guys think? Are you looking forward to seeing Hoechlin fully suited up as Superman on the CW series? Sound-off your thoughts in the comment section below.

“CAST AS SUPERGIRL”??? So DC wants to tap into the underserved transgendered market, huh?

Yeh teri ammi ka yaar hire kiya hai inhon ne superman play karne ke liye!

If there’s one thing the DC TV shows do well, it’s casting. With that said, this is a strange pick. The guy is what, 3 or 4 years older than Supergirl herself. I expected someone a bit older (Tom Welling). Oh Well.

Oh remember when it was rumored that this kid would play Batman in Batman v Superman? I do

    • LSB

      Yep I remember that.

I only hope they don’t give him those terrible clunky red boots they previewed or cameo’d in the 1st season when he was in the DEO’s Sick Bay. LOL!

Let’s hope no one is up in arms about Welling not being cast. This guy looks waaaaaaaay more like Clark/Superman that Welling ever did.
His height is not an issue either nor his age in regards to the actress- Benoist.
He’s an actor…they pretend to be what they are not so him being close in age to Supergirl shouldn’t confuse anybody.

I disagree with the fact he looks “waaaaaaaay more like Clark/Superman” over welling. The height and age thing about it not being an issue sounds like you trying to justify it. Welling would have the 10 years of experience to draw from plus having him have 5-ish years to catch a breath and do other thing and come back to the character, that would have been an asset. Seeing pictures of Tom now I think he could pull off a veteran Superman quite well. Remember this superman has years and years of experience.

Welling has 10 years of experience not playing Superman in a show that over stayed its welcome by 6 seasons.

        • ArKane

It’s been 5 years since smallville went off the air. I think some time apart allows an actor to gain perspective which is valuable. The 6 seasons as you say that over stayed its welcome is not because of him. If anything its him as a good leading man Superman/Clark that kept an audience even after as you put it the show “over stayed its welcome”. So of anything thats more points towards Tom welling.

          • Carl

Bottom line though, whether you like Smallville or not, casting Tom Welling in this would be really confusing.

          • ArKane

I really don’t think so. I dont think many people would connect the old smallville and new CW-DC universe. Most people who watched it for the first few years but only the hardcore stayed with it. And any who watched near the end myself included I dont believe would think they are connected. Smallvile Earth could be Earth 26 for all I know. The good thing with the flash is it allowed the general watching audience to get familiar with the multiverse. Tom Welling would have been a great older veteran superman who has experience with the character, looks the part, can easily be explained as Supergirls Earth’s superman with little confusion being that smallville has been off the air for 5 years. Lastly it would be a nice little wink towards the other fans like myself who would have been really appreciative of it. But if not Tom I think Matt Bomer would have been pretty nice as well. All things aside Im sure this actor will do fine. The casting to me seems slightly off but nowhere near as bad as the miscasting the movies have going on.

          Carl! I agree with you!

      • Foreign Geek

Not trying to justify anything! Don’t know what your sentimentality about Welling is but he was NEVER a good Superman or Clark. Plus there are a number of other actors out there good enough to play this role. move on!

Doesn’t matter what experience he had playing the role, he never wanted to be seen in the costume anyway so…

  • Carl

Yeah he looks the part. Never seen him before but I hope he does well. Can’t be worse than Henry Cavil… lol

P.S. Can’t wait to see the costume and happy all the Tom Welling talk can end.
