Melissa Benoist’s Supergirl may be canceled due to the shows’ low audience ratings in recent episodes and it may be replaced by a Superman TV series with Tyler Hoechlin.
According to We Got This Covered, things aren’t looking so great for Kara Zor-El and her Supergirl TV series at The CW. Despite being one of last year’s most popular shows and renewed for another season, The CW is reportedly not happy with Supergirl‘s most recent audience ratings.
The latest rumor is that a Superman series will take Supergirl‘s spot in The CW DC TV lineup. It seems not even Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman inclusion in the show and Jon Cryer’s Lex Luthor appearance is increasing viewership for Supergirl. Whether if Superman actor Tyler Hoechlin will reprise his role in the new potential Superman series, is anyone’s guess at this moment. It was a rather big surprise when Superman himself appeared in Supergirl due to the fact that characters like him or Batman have never appeared consistently in DC TV franchises. Superman is often saved for more high profile DC endeavors like the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice or the Justice League films.
The news comes out as other rumors also start to shake the Arrowverse. Yesterday another rumor pointed out that Arrow and DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow would be canceled after their ninth and sixth seasons, respectively. Also, it seems that the new Arrowverse crossover event, Crisis On Infinite Earths, will kill off major characters and effectively reshape its superhero line-up.
Crisis on Infinite Earths is one the most famous storylines from DC comics. The story hinges on the Anti-Monitor trying to destroy all the versions of Earth of the Multiverse, while Brainiac recruits other villains to conquer what’s left. With this, the Monitor unites the superheroes to defeat the threat. Ultimately, heroes and villains band together and defeat the Anti-Monitor. This storyline is famous because of its death toll on the DC universe which includes none other than Barry Allen and Supergirl.
Could Crisis on Infinite Earths fulfill its comic book promise and kill off Supergirl and its entire series? Do you think a Superman series is the right move for the Arrowverse? What do you think? Sound off in the comment section down below!
Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist, Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh, Katie McGrath, Jesse Rath, Lynda Carter, Sam Witwer, Nicole Maines, April Parker Jones, and David Harewood.
Supergirl‘s next episode is called “What’s So Funny About Truth, Justice, and the American Way?” and it will premiere March 3. Here’s the synopsis for it:
SUPERGIRL FACES OFF AGAINST THE ELITE. Manchester Black (guest star David Ajala) breaks out of prison with the help of his new team, The Elite, who are set on punishing the anti-alien forces. Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) pulls double duty as she tries to apprehend Manchester Black and his team as well as deal with a shocking new development with Ben Lockwood (Sam Witwer). Alexis Ostrander directed the episode written by Eric Carrasco & Aadrita Mukerji.
Supergirl airs on Sunday nights at 8 P.M. ET on The CW.
