‘Supergirl’ Taps Frederick Schmidt As DC Comics’ Metallo

A few weeks ago, a certain Superman villain was spotted on the set of CW’s Supergirl that is currently shooting Season 2 in Vancouver, Canada. It was unclear at first if this was the villain and who was playing him, but now we got some answers at last.

Entertainment Weekly revealed today that Frederick Schmidt has been tapped to play John Corben a.k.a. the famous Superman rogue, Metallo, who will be appearing in the Season 2 premiere and at least one more episode. Warner Bros. TV describes the TV show’s take on Metallo when he debuts in Season 2.

“When international assassin John Corben is badly injured after taking on both Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and Superman (Tyler Hoechlin), he is reborn by a shadow organization into the Kryptonite-powered supervillain Metallo.”

“Now, in Season Two, Kara has left the safety of being Cat Grant’s assistant in order to figure out what she really wants to do, while as Supergirl she continues to work at the DEO., protecting the citizens of National City and searching for Jeremiah and Cadmus. Along the way, she will team up with Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) to battle new villains, as she strives to balance her personal life with her life as a superhero.

Supergirl Season 2 flies in on Monday, October 10 at 8/7c on The CW.
