‘Superman’ Actor Henry Cavill Heroically Rescues A Turtle From Traffic

Superman Henry Cavill
Not all heroes wear capes… At least not when they’re not on set filming for the latest superhero blockbuster. Superman actor Henry Cavill was just spotted saving an endangered turtle from traffic.

Cavill, who is currently in London and looks to be ready for Justice League‘s reshoots and additional photography, was recently spotted holding up traffic for a moment – but it was for a good cause. Cavill found a turtle that was stuck on its back in the middle of the street, picked it up, and helped it make its way back to safety. Someone who was there managed to record the tail end of the event and added a bit of fitting music for good measure:

@HenryCavill stoping traffic to save a turtle!!! YAY #Superman!!! #turtle#superman #henrycavill

We at Heroic Hollywood would like to imagine that immediately after this moment, Cavill heard a cry of “HELP!” off in the distance and flew off to save a crew of engineers from a collapsing oil rig. But hey, this isn’t a comic book.

Cavill’s Superman has been criticized for being a bit dour compared to other interpretations of the character (in part because the two movies he’s been in have demanded a more dramatic take on Superman), but in real life, he’s been described as a stand-up guy more in line with the Big Blue Boy Scout that people tend to think of. Given that Superman will continue to be a big part of the DCEU going forward, and that the franchise is erring toward the side of being more optimistic and hopeful (even while exploring some darker themes than the Marvel Cinematic Universe), perhaps we’ll get to see more of that side of Superman from Justice League onward.

Justice League unites on November 17, 2017. The superhero epic features a cast that includes Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne (Batman), Henry Cavill as Kal-El/Clark Kent (Superman), Gal Gadot as Diana Prince (Wonder Woman), Jason Mamoa as Orin/Arthur Curry (Aquaman), Ezra Miller as Barry Allen (The Flash), Ray Fisher as Victor Stone (Cyborg), Ciarán Hinds as Steppenwolf, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, Robin Wright as General Antiope, J. K. Simmons as Commissioner James ‘Jim’ Gordon, Joe Morton as Dr. Silas Stone, Amber Heard as Mera, Billy Crudup as Dr. Henry Allen, and Kiersey Clemons as Iris West. Julian Lewis Jones and Michael McElhatton are also in the movie in unspecified roles.
