Superman Lives never reached the big screen but fans can get a great look at Nic Cage’s unused costume in a new image.
After directing two Batman films for Warner Bros. and DC, director Tim Burton planned on making a film titled Superman Lives, starring Nic Cage in the titular role. The movie eventually fell apart before filming even began but many of the concept art, costumes, and archival behind-the-scenes footage have since given fans a glimpse at what Superman Lives could have been. The story of the film’s production was best explained in the 2015 documentary The Death of “Superman Lives”: What Happened? directed by Jon Schnepp.
The archival photo and images have given fans a look at what Nic Cage’s Superman suit would have looked like but now a recent image has given fans easily the clearest, up-close look at the unused costume. The image comes from writer Ray Carsillo, who posted an image on Instagram of him standing next to the costume. It was brought out of the Warner Archives for an episode of DC Daily, which airs daily on the DC Universe streaming service. Check out the incredible image of the costume below.
There have been a number of films over the years about The Last Son of Krypton that never made it to the big screen but Superman Lives has become notable for a number of reasons. First off, production on the film was very close to actually going in front of cameras and second off, the idea of Nic Cage as Superman is a very unconventional casting choice, though he has since played the character in Teen Titans GO! To the Movies.
