The official trailer for Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story has been released, offering a powerful and emotional look at the life and legacy of the actor who famously portrayed Superman in four films during the ’70s and ’80s. Directed by Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui, the documentary delves into Reeve’s life before and after his near-fatal horse-riding accident in 1995, which left him paralyzed from the neck down.
The film highlights Reeve’s remarkable journey as a quadriplegic, focusing on his advocacy for spinal cord injury research through the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation. The documentary features interviews with Reeve’s three children and aims to honor his enduring legacy as both an actor and an activist, offering an intimate portrayal of the man behind the DC Comics hero.
Christopher Reeve’s Superman Legacy
Christopher Reeve has gone down in history as one of the most beloved actors of all time. His time as Superman defined an entire generation and brought superheroes to the forefront of the mainstream. Super/Man isn’t just meant to celebrate his time as the hero, but his powerful journey before and after that faithful role.
“On behalf of not only Warner Bros., but also my colleagues at DC, HBO and CNN, it’s an honor to be a part of bringing Christopher Reeve and his singular legacy to audiences again,” Fathom Events CEO Ray Nutt explained. “It was at this very studio where he made us all believe a man could fly, and this documentary reveals what made him a true hero, on- and off-screen.”
“Partnering with our friends at Fathom Events to deliver this very special film to the big screen was an opportunity we could not pass up. Everyone knows that Superman is a superhero, but I’m eager for audiences to discover the REAL superhero behind Superman. This film is an extraordinary story that takes a deep dive into the man Christopher Reeve really was and the courage he displayed. We’re looking forward to working with our partners at DC Studios and Warner Bros. to bring this inspiring film to theatres nationwide.”
Christopher Reeve’s legacy still affects the character of Superman to this day. DC Studios co-head James Gunn has stated multiple times that his take on the character was a massive influence on the upcoming Superman reboot. Hopefully, Super/Man will inspire general audiences to act even outside of the cape and trunks.
Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story will play in select theaters on September 21, followed by an encore presentation on Reeve’s birthday, September 25. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
