Sylvester Stallone Reveals Why He Took A Marvel Role

Sylvester Stallone, who has a role in Marvel's 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' talks about why he joined the Cinematic Universe.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to add some major A-list talent to their films. Some actors/actresses range from much of the biggest stars of the decade while other roles are given to some Hollywood icons. One of the most recent icons to be featured in a Marvel film is none other than Sylvester Stallone, who has a role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Stallone is one of cinema’s most iconic action stars. His accomplishments with the Rocky and Rambo franchises are just the tip of the iceberg, and the thought of seeing him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is exciting.

You can tell that Marvel Studios is on a hot streak when big screen legends such as Robert Redford and Michael Douglas are given roles. Before the Heroic Age of Hollywood, many actors and actresses feared taking on superhero roles, but now that they’re the biggest thing in town, we have performers like Stallone and Kurt Russell lining up to join in on the fun.

Recently, Stallone appeared in a press conference for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 along with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Pom Klementieff (Mantis) and Sean Gunn (Kraglin). During the conference, Stallone discussed why he joined the sequel to James Gunn’s 2014 blockbuster:

Actually, it was pretty painless. It was interesting because I love [Marvel] films, but I haven’t ventured into the genre, so it was quite an experience. When I walked on the set, [I saw] robots and things, a woman who was seven feet tall, and everything else. I thought, ‘This is great. This is a great vacation. It’s better than being up a tree in Burma,’ you know what I mean?
