‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ Director Taika Waititi Unsure About Fifth Film

Taika Waititi is a busy man.

Thor: Love and Thunder Taika Waititi is unsure about a fifth film for the Mighty Avenger.

The first Thor film, which was directed by Academy Award-nominee Kenneth Branagh hit theaters in 2011. Following the character’s appearance in 2012’s The Avengers, he returned in the 2013 sequel Thor: The Dark World, which was directed by Alan Taylor. The film is widely considered to be on of the weaker films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Thor wasn’t considered a favorite character within the MCU amongst some audiences for quite some time.

That wasn’t until Taika Waititi signed on to direct Thor: Ragnarok, which served as a humorous reinvention of the character for audiences. It kickstarted an exciting emotional arc for Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder that began from there and continued into the following two Avengers films. Taika Waititi returned to direct and co-write the script for the fourth film, Thor: Love and Thunder, which recently wrapped principal photography. In regards to whether or not he’d return to direct a fifth film, the Academy Award-winning writer/director believes he’s brought all the ideas he had for Thor to the table with both Ragnarok and Love and Thunder. He explained his sentiment in an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald:

“Who knows if we do another one after this but I definitely feel like we put everything – every idea and every single ridiculous concept or gag or stunt or character – into this film. I couldn’t be happier with it.”

Taika Waititi’s schedule is pretty busy for the time being. Not only has he finished production on Love and Thunder, but he also has the upcoming sports comedy Next Goal Wins and is currently attached to direct and co-write a new Star Wars film.

Do you hope Taika Waititi returns to the MCU for a fifth Thor movie? Sound off in the comments below.

Full details on the plot for Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder are currently being kept under lock and key, though the film will be partly based on Jason Aaron’s Mighty Thor comic book run, in which Jane Foster becomes the new Thor. Directed by Taika Waititi from a script he co-wrote with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, Love and Thunder stars Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman, and Christian Bale.

The film is set to be released on May 6, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news Chris Hemsworth’s upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more exclusive video content.
