Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi has said that his upcoming Marvel film shouldn’t make sense.
Chris Hemsworth and the Thor films did not always have the best track record in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The second film Thor: The Dark World, in particular, is generally considered to be one of the worst entries in the MCU. Thor: Ragnarok under director Taika Waititi completely turned this around with an installment that is generally considered to be one of the best. Eventually, Waititi signed on for the sequel, Thor: Love and Thunder and the director is teasing that it will be a crazy film.
Relatively little is known about the plot of the upcoming film beyond a few connections to the comic book source material. Christian Bale has been confirmed to be playing Gorr the God Butcher and Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster will be wielding Thor’s hammer Mjollnir. Based on what the director is saying, however, the film will be one wild ride.
While speaking to Empire, Taiki Waititi revealed a bit about Thor: Love and Thunder. He kept stressing that the upcoming was going to be crazy and that nothing about it should make sense if you were to write it all down:
“Well, just between [me and] you and the readers, I’ve done some crazy sh*t in my life. I’ve lived, like, ten lifetimes. But it’s the craziest film I’ve ever done. If you wrote down all the elements of this film, it shouldn’t make sense. It’s almost like it shouldn’t be made. If you walked into a room and said, ‘I want this and this and this.’ Who’s in it? These people. What are you going to call it? Love And Thunder. I mean, you’d never work again. Maybe I won’t after this.
It’s very different from Ragnarok. It’s crazier. I’ll tell you what’s different. There’ll be far more emotion in this film. And a lot more love. And a lot more thunder. And a lot more Thor, if you’ve seen the photos.”
