Marvel Studios’ president Kevin Feige has confirmed Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie will be the MCU’s first LGBTQ superhero.
During Marvel Studios’ Phase 4 presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, fans learned new details on what they can expect from Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie in Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder. On the stage, Tessa Thompson stated that Valkyrie’s first act as King of Asgard will be to find a queen, all but confirming the character would be Marvel Studios’ first LGTBQ hero.
During a conversation with io9, Kevin Feige removed any doubt and confirmed Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie will be an LGBTQ hero while promising more levels of representation across all of Marvel Studios’ upcoming projects:
“The answer is yes. How that impacts the story remains to be seen with that level of representation you’ll see across our films, not in just Thor 4.
Directed by Taika Waititi, Thor: Love and Thunder stars Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, and Natalie Portman. The film will be based on Jason Aaron’s Mighty Thor comic book run, with Portman’s Jane Foster set to become the new Thor. Valkyrie was last seen being named the new king in Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame.
Here’s the official synopsis for Avenger: Endgame:
