Thanos creator Jim Starlin released a statement in response to President Donald Trump’s Avengers: Endgame ad.
Towards the end of the climactic battle in Avengers: Endgame, it appeared as if Thanos was close to victory after stealing the gauntlet that was holding the Infinity Stones. Before trying to use the stones to destroy the universe, Thanos uttered his famous “I am inevitable” line before realizing Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man had taken the gems back and subsequently used them to erase the Mad Titan from existence.
Yesterday, the campaign for Donald Trump released an ad featuring footage from the scene with the President’s face imposed on Thanos that concluded with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other Democratic leaders being erased like the Mad Titan’s victims. In a statement released to The Hollywood Reporter, Thanos creator Jim Starlin noted that he felt violated after watching the video and stunned upon realizing that President Donald Trump enjoyed comparing himself to genocidal supervillain:
“After my initial feeling of being violated, seeing that pompous fool using my creation to stroke his infantile ego, it finally struck me that the leader of my country and the free world actually enjoys comparing himself to a mass murderer. How sick is that? These are sad and strange times we are going through. Fortunately, all things, even national nightmares, eventually come to an end.”
