The highly-anticipated Star Wars series The Acolyte is officially in production.
Disney has revealed the full cast of The Acolyte, along with a behind-the-scenes photo from the Star Wars series. The project is being developed for the Disney Plus service, the home of the live-action Star Wars shows The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor.
Rebecca Henderson, Charlie Barnett, Dean-Charles Chapman and Carrie-Anne Moss have boarded The Acolyte, joining previously-announced cast members Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto and Dafne Keen. Stenberg, Lee and Jacinto are said to be playing the lead characters of the upcoming series.
What is The Acolyte about?
According to reports, The Acolyte is set to take place roughly a century before the events of 2001’s Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. Disney’s description of the series reads as follows: “A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated.”
The Acolyte is being developed by Leslye Headland, one of the creators of the hit Netflix series Russian Doll. The series does not yet have a premiere date for Disney Plus but a late 2023 or early 2024 launch is likely given that the project is already filming.
