Here’s When ‘The Batman’ Will Begin Streaming On HBO Max

First stop: cinemas.

Robert Pattinson The Batman Opening Weekend Box Office

The Batman will begin streaming on HBO Max sooner than you think!

Amidst the pandemic, Warner Bros. decided to release their entire 2021 theatrical slate simultaneously in both cinemas and HBO Max. While the move was praised by HBO Max’s various subscribers, many industry pundits and creatives denounced the decision. The unprecedented release strategy also resulted in less than ideal box office numbers for projects like The Matrix Resurrections and The Suicide Squad.

One film that didn’t notably release in 2021 was Robert Pattinson’s The Batman, which was pushed back to March of 2022. Should the film have been released in 2021, it likely would have also hit HBO Max. While it has been confirmed that Warner Bros.’ 2022 theatrical slate will not support day and date HBO Max releases, the window between releases has shortened.

Speaking with Vox’s Recode podcast (via, WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar has reconfirmed that Matt Reeves‘ highly-anticipated The Batman will begin streaming on HBO Max 46 days after its theatrical debut.

“Think about when movies would show up on HBO, which is eight to nine months after theatrical premiere. The Batman is going to show up on day 46 on HBO Max. That is a huge change from where things were in 2018, 2017, 2016.”

This means The Batman will begin streaming on HBO Max on April 19, 2022. This strategy will also extend to future Warner Bros. tentpoles as well, like Black Adam and The Flash.

“I feel really, really good knowing that The Batman, and Black Adam, and The Flash, and Elvis, and a whole host of other movies, are literally going to be showing up on day 46 on HBO Max in a variety of territories all over the world. That is a very, very big change that I don’t think people appreciate, and I feel really good about it.”

Here is the synopsis for Matt Reeves’ The Batman:

Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman (Robert Pattinson), striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies — Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), Lt. James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) — amongst the city’s corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens.

When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler (Paul Dano). As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.

Directed by Matt Reeves, the film stars Robert Pattinson as the titular hero, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.

The Batman will hit theaters on March 4, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the Matt Reeves film and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
