Batman Forever writer Akiva Goldsman can’t wait to see Robert Pattinson take on the role of the Caped Crusader in Matt Reeves’ The Batman.

During a recent interview with Collider, Goldsman opened up about writing both Batman Forever as well as Batman & Robin, which Joel Schumacher brought to life on the silver screen in the nineties. But Goldsman also expressed his excitement to see Warner Bros.’ next iteration of the DC Comics superhero, which features Pattinson donning the cape and cowl with Reeves (War for the Planet of the Apes) behind the lens.

“Matt Reeves, I think, is so insanely talented and I think Robert Pattinson is terrific. For me, the key to this is Matt. Have you ever seen the pilot of Felicity? Matt directed it, J.J. [Abrams] wrote it, and it hums in this extraordinary way. From then, I have admired Matt as a director. I just think he’s literate, he’s articulate emotionally, he’s can cinematically virtuosic. For me, I can’t wait to see [The Batman].”

The Batman was forced to shut down production in March due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Filming in the United Kingdom had just begun the month prior. With principal photography now suspended indefinitely, Warner Bros. opted to push the film’s theatrical release date back to October 1, 2021.

Plot details remain under wraps, however, The Batman will feature Pattinson during the Caped Crusader’s formative days in Gotham City, along with The Penguin as well as a rogues gallery of Batman villains that includes Catwoman and The Riddler.

Directed by Matt Reeves from a script he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.

The Batman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on October 1, 2021. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news regarding Robert Pattinson, Matt Reeves, and The Batman, and be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content in the future!
