The Flash producer Barbara Muschietti addressed concerns surrounding actor Ezra Miller and the potential impact on the movie’s production in an interview with MovieMaker. Muschietti shared insights into how she and her brother Andy, who directed the DC Universe movie, navigated the situation amidst troubling allegations against Miller.
During the interview, Barbara Muschietti emphasized the commitment of filmmakers to their work and the ability to focus on the project despite external challenges. She acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations against Miller but emphasized that their primary focus was on delivering a compelling cinematic experience for audiences who were waiting for Barry Allen’s first cinematic solo outing.
“No, you know, as filmmakers, you have to put your head down and just do your work. Of course, we take that stuff very seriously, but we were focusing on the movie.”
Addressing the question of whether they ever considered replacing Ezra Miller in light of the allegations, Muschietti dismissed the idea as “absolutely impossible.” She expressed surprise upon learning about rumors suggesting Miller’s replacement, stating that she and her brother laughed when they read such reports. “That rumor definitely didn’t come from us or the studio,” she added.
In The Flash, Barry Allen travels back in time to save his mother, which creates an alternate timeline known as the Flashpoint Paradox. This decision has serious consequences for Barry and the rest of the world, as he must navigate this new reality while also facing off against villains like General Zod from Man of Steel.
The Flash’s DC Universe future
Warner Bros. Discovery already has a script for a potential sequel to The Flash, written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, the man behind the two Aquaman movies starring Jason Momoa. However, James Gunn and Peter Safran did not discuss the Flash sequel during their DC Universe presentation.
Directed by Andy Muschietti from a script written by Birds of Prey scribe Christina Hodson, The Flash is inspired by the Flashpoint comic book storyline, which followed Barry Allen as he navigated an altered DC Universe. Written by Geoff Johns and penciled by Andy Kuber, Flashpoint radically altered the status of the DC Comics universe and led to the launch of the New 52 titles.
In addition to Ezra Miller, The Flash also features Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck as two separate versions of Batman, Ron Livingston as Henry Allen, Maribel Verdú as Nora Allen, Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Antje Traue as Faora-Ul and Sasha Calle as Supergirl.
