The stars of the Disney Plus Star Wars series The Mandalorian recently talked about what fans could expect from Season 3.
The Mandalorian wowed Star Wars fans when it debuted on Disney Plus in 2019, introducing the Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin and Grogu, a Force-sensitive child of Yoda’s species. Alongside its two central characters, the series introduced a rich supporting cast and in its second season would go on to bring in characters from the animated series The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, as well as notable characters from the original Star Wars trilogy.
Season 3 of The Mandalorian is set to arrive on Disney Plus in February 2023 and, judging by what the stars of the show have been saying, will dive deep into some darker corners of the Star Wars universe.
The Stars Speak Out
Pedro Pascal (who plays Din Djarin), Carl Weathers (Greef Karga), Katee Sackhoff (Bo-Katan Kryze) and Giancarlo Esposito (Moff Gideon) all recently spoke to ET Online about what fans can expect to see in the new series, while at Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim.
Pedro Pascal, the show’s title character, said Season 3 “is even better than the previous one. It’s safe to say that you’re going to love it.” He also said that in The Mandalorian‘s third season “Grogu is discovering more of his powers,” leading to a question of “who’s protecting who.”
Carl Weathers called Season 3 “fuller,” with “a lot more heft,” saying “It’s so dense with so much action but also character.” The actor, who appeared as an agent of the Bounty Hunters Guild, added “Each of these characters has so much story within their own personal story.”
Katee Sackhoff, who appears as Bo-Katan Kryze, a character she first voiced in The Clone Wars and then reprised in Rebels, called the new season “dark” and said it will see Bo-Katan “continuing to evolve and grow and figure out who she is.”
Giancarlo Esposito, who plays the villainous Moff Gideon and was taken into custody by the New Republic at the end of Season 2, said Season 3 will be “larger than ever… and it’s just an expansion, in many ways, of last season… It’s a season that has great ideas, great teasings and great tips for the future.” The actor also teased “I think we could have an opportunity to see [Moff Gideon] escape those chains that bind him,” hinting his character will not remain captive for long.
Here is the synopsis for the Star Wars series:
After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travels of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic….
The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Giancarlo Esposito, Temuera Morrison, Katee Sackhoff, Ming-Na Wen, Bill Burr, Timothy Olyphant, and Carl Weathers, with Rosario Dawson joining the series as Ahsoka Tano ahead of her spin-off series. The project was created by Jon Favreau and executive produced by Dave Filoni, with episodes directed by Rick Famuyiwa, Bryce Dallas Howard, Peyton Reed, Carl Weathers, and Robert Rodriguez.
