Disney co-chairman Alan Horn says a movie centered on The Mandalorian is possible if the Star Wars series is successful.
Disney Plus launched on Tuesday and much of the talk is about the first ever live-action Star Wars series that premiered on the service, The Mandalorian. So far, the reaction appears to be pretty positive as Star Wars fans await the second episode coming this Friday.
Another major draw for Disney Plus are the upcoming shows being produced by Marvel Studios. The Marvel Studios shows on Disney Plus will have characters crossover into the big films, something Marvel fans have been wanting for years with the Netflix characters. Star Wars has been in a similar situation, but with their animated shows. There haven’t been any major leaps for Star Wars TV characters making appearances in movies besides Saw Gerrera, but that could change in the future. On Wednesday, Disney co-chairman Alan Horn was talking at Variety‘s Business Managers Breakfast in Beverly Hills and commented on The Mandalorian moving to the big screen:
“The Mandalorian is already proving to be a big thing, so if that series proves to be so compelling that we reverse engineer it into a theatrical release, a two-hour film or whatever, O.K.”

Here is the synopsis for Disney Plus’ The Mandalorian:
After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Carl Weathers, Omid Abtahi, Werner Herzog, and Nick Nolte. The Disney+ series was written by Jon Favreau, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist is also on board as a co-executive producer.
Dave Filoni will direct the first episode of the Star Wars series and additional episodes will be helmed by Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi, Jurassic World star Bryce Dallas Howard, Dope director Rick Famuyiwa, and Jessica Jones director Deborah Chow.
The Mandalorian streams exclusively on Disney Plus.
