The Marvels are back!

The Marvels Iman Vellani Brie Larson Teyonah Parris Captain Marvel Carol Danvers

New images from The Marvels, shared by Entertainment Weekly, highlight the three leading heroes, showcasing Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, and Iman Vellani in their respective roles.

Brie Larson, returning as Carol Danvers, dons an updated costume that balances classic red, blue, and gold elements with a sleek modern design. Teyonah Parris, embodying the superhero alter ego of Monica Rambeau, dazzles in a black and white suit as she takes on the mantle of Photon. Meanwhile, Iman Vellani, known for her portrayal of Kamala Khan, is shown in an updated Ms. Marvel suit.

In addition to the leading heroes, EW’s images also feature Samuel L. Jackson reprising his role as Nick Fury. Sporting his trademark eyepatch, Fury returns after his role in Marvel’s Disney Plus series Secret Invasion. Accompanying Fury is none other than Goose, the mischievous cat who previously cost him his eye in 2019’s Captain Marvel.

“I’m excited that the MCU has three lead women, all from very diverse backgrounds, and they’re all baddies in their own way,” Parris told EW. “It’s going to be really exciting just to see these smart, fun, intelligent, and troubled women find their way.”

The talent behind The Marvels

The Marvels is set to be a groundbreaking film in many ways. Not only does it feature three powerful female superheroes, but it also has a female director, Nia DaCosta, who previously directed the horror flick Candyman. The movie features a cast that includes Zawe Ashton, Park Seo-joon, Saagar Shaikh, Zenobia Shroff, and Mohan Kapur.

“She has a really calm vibe, too,” Iman Vellani said about DaCosta. “These movies are not easy to make at all. There’s like a million, bajillion little moving pieces. She and [executive producer] Mary [Livanos] did such a great job to keep morale high. Even if there were days where they wanted to rip people’s heads off, they would never show it and never put their stress on anyone else.”

In addition to directing The Marvels, Nia DaCosta also co-wrote the script alongside Megan McDonnell, Elissa Karasik, and Zeb Wells. During an interview, DaCosta described the movie as being “full comic book madness,” teasing what audiences can expect from the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe project.
