A new set photo from The Marvels featured the first look at Ms. Marvel’s new superhero costume.
Production on Brie Larson’s highly-anticipated Captain Marvel sequel has wrapped up. Directed by Nia Dacosta, The Marvels will shift the focus from entirely on Carol Danvers to Monica Rambeau and Ms. Marvel. Rambeau was first introduced in Captain Marvel as a child, but fans got to see her come into her powers in WandaVision. As for Ms. Marvel, she’s set to debut in her own Disney Plus series, which will air later next year.
Besides a few set photos and a quick promotional reel, we don’t know much about Kamala Khan and her larger journey into the MCU. She’s clearly poised to be a big part of the franchise, but details on her upcoming solo series are slim. However, a recently surfaced set photo from the upcoming Brie Larson-led sequel teases Kamala Khan’s latest suit.
The new suit is far more streamlined, darker, and just more in line with the visual language of Captain Marvel’s garbs. Footage from The Ms. Marvel series so far has shown Kamala rocking both a make-shift, cosplay-like suit of Carol Danvers’ hero, as well as her own suit, which doesn’t have the gravitas as the one seen above. It makes sense considering the young heroine is still finding her place in an ever-evolving universe of superheros.
Created by editors Sana Amanat and Stephen Wacker, writer G. Willow Wilson, and artists Adrian Alphona and Jamie McKelvie, Kamala Khan made her debut in Captain Marvel #14 before becoming the lead character in a solo comic series. Khan became the company’s first Muslim character to headline her own comic book run and the first issue of the series won the 2015 Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story.
The series is set to debut on Disney Plus in 2022. The Marvels will hit cinemas in 2023. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan and the future of the MCU on the big screen and small screen, and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
