DC producer Peter Safran played coy when asked if The Suicide Squad would feature any superhero cameos.
The Suicide Squad is set to hit cinemas later this week after receiving considerable praise from critics earlier last month. We gave it a rare 10/10 perfect score, calling it “a masterfully-directed wild ride… like Guardians of the Galaxy on LSD.” With the film set to debut in a matter of days in both theatres and HBO Max, the press tour is in full swing.
At a recent event, to promote the film, producer Peter Safran – who has also lent his talents to DC projects like Aquaman and Shazam! – was asked if fans could expect any superhero cameos in the James Gunn film. Safran remained coy and didn’t rule out any potential cameos, but also didn’t confirm if any would appear.
“It’s mostly these guys.”
Mostly is an interesting word to use. Details are surprisingly still slim on the James Gunn-directed film, as the plot summaries and trailers so far have just focused on Task Force X hunting down the kaiju Starro. It’s entirely possible that the film could feature a minor cameo from a superhero. Seeing as the film has mostly propped itself up as a showcase for b and c-tier villains, it would be interesting to see lesser-known heroes take on The Suicide Squad. Luckily, the DC film is only days out, so we’ll know soon enough if the film has some good guys.

Here is the synopsis for James Gunn’s upcoming film:
Welcome to hell—a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese. Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and-destroy mission, with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave…and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement. And as always, one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them.
Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars David Dastmalchian, John Cena, Jai Courtney, Joaquín Cosío, Nathan Fillion, Joel Kinnaman, Mayling Ng, Flula Borg, Sean Gunn, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, Pete Davidson, Taika Waititi, Alice Braga, Steve Agee, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior, Peter Capaldi, Julio Ruiz, Jennifer Holland, Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Margot Robbie, and Michael Rooker.
The Suicide Squad is currently scheduled to hit theaters and HBO Max on August 6, 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the upcoming film and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content!
