A new TV spot for Thor: Love and Thunder sees Avengers: Endgame‘s bigger Thor back in action alongside the Guardians of the Galaxy.
When audiences last saw Chris Hemsworth as Thor in the MCU, he wasn’t boasting his usual godly physique. Avengers: Endgame saw Thor struggling with his guilt after failing to kill Thanos during the events of Avengers: Infinity War. As a result, the thunder god gained a lot of weight. Early trailers for Love and Thunder revealed Thor would be shedding the pounds and getting back into shape, but a new TV spot also confirms his Endgame dad bod will see some action over the course of the new film.
Cool Avengers Don’t Look At Explosions
The latest TV spot for Thor: Love and Thunder features more of Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, the Guardians of the Galaxy and Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher in action. The TV spot ends on a shot of Thor and the Guardians walking away from a wall of flame. Interestingly, Thor is sporting his larger Avengers: Endgame look in this scene, suggesting it takes place soon after he set off with the Guardians at the end of that film.
The TV spot also features more of Natalie Portman’s Mighty Thor and Tessa Thompson’s King Valkyrie, while promising stakes that could be “catastrophic for the whole universe.” Check out the new TV spot below:
While Thor will likely be getting back in shape early on in Love and Thunder, it’s nice to see this continuity carry over, with the hero’s weight loss journey happening on screen, rather than between movies. With his weight gain serving as a visual representation of his guilt and mental health struggles after the battle with Thanos, Thor’s journey “from dad bod to god bod,” as Korg puts it, will help represent his recuperation and healing after the events of Endgame.
Here is the synopsis for Thor: Love and Thunder:
The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.
Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the film stars Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Taika Waititi, Russell Crowe, Natalie Portman, Jaimie Alexander, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper.
