Thor: Ragnarok star Cate Blanchett is in talks to star in Lionsgate’s Borderlands film.
Lionsgate is set to adapt the Borderlands video game for the big screen with director Eli Roth at the helm. Now, Variety reports that Cate Blanchette, who portrayed Hela in Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok, is in talks to portray Lilith in the Borderlands adaption.
The first Borderlands game center a group of “Vault Hunters” as they travel planet Pandora in search of an alien vault believed to contain advanced alien technology. Although they face threats from the planet’s wildlife and bandits, the Vault Hunters ‘ greatest foe is the head of a private corporation army, whom they try to stop from reaching the vault first. The character Cate Blanchette would play, Lilith, is a woman who operates as a “Siren” with spectral and cosmic powers.
Lionsgate’s Borderlands film will be produced by Avi and Ari Arad through Arad Production alongside Erik Feig, who will produce through his Picturestart banner. The most recent screenplay for Lionsgate’s Borderlands was penned by Craig Mazin, who previously won an Emmy for his work on HBO’s Chernobyl.
