‘Thor: Ragnarok’: Chris Hemsworth On Inspiration Behind Thor’s New Look

Chris Hemsworth Thor Avengers Marvel Cinematic Universe

Thor: Ragnarok actor Chris Hemsworth really liked his character’s new look. New adventure, fresh new hair cut. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Hemsworth said he found the new haircut to be “liberating” and “freeing.”

“When I didn’t have the wig on, I instantly felt like I could move and speak and react differently. Once we aesthetically stripped a lot of that away, it allowed the whole thing to take on a different attitude. It felt like a completely different character, and that was hugely liberating and freeing as an actor because I had become a bit bored with myself.”

Director Taika Waititi went on to discuss what inspired the look of Thor in Ragnarok and, unsurprisingly, a lot of it was inspired by the character’s comics.

“The look is inspired a helluva lot by Jack Kirby and his art. I loved the kind of cosmic trippy vibe of the Thor comics. I’ve often said if Freddie Mercury were alive, I would have asked Queen to do the soundtrack. The movie just has that feel: It’s a cool, bold, colorful cosmic adventure.”

Directed by Taika Waititi, Thor: Ragnarok stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson,  Karl Urban, Mark Ruffalo and Anthony Hopkins.

In Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok – the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization – at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladictorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger – the Incredible Hulk!

Thor: Ragnarok will be released in theaters on November 3, 2017.
