A fan favorite in Thor: Ragnarok, Korg looked about as friendly as a giant rock creature could look. Being voiced by director Taika Waititi certainly helped in that regard. Thanks to the Instagram of the film’s concept artist, we now know that Korg could have looked a whole lot meaner.
Ian Joyner, who has worked on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as a concept artist and even the first Thor as a member of the special effects team, has shared things via social media before. In late November, the artist gave fans of his work a few takes he did on Surtur’s dragon. In the past week, Joyner posted the work he did on Korg, as well as a corrupted ‘E-Guard’ and even a side-by-side comparison of one of Hela’s butchers and its Lego counterpart. As he did with Surtur’s dragon, Joyner’s flair for creature design really shines. Another credit to the artist is his work on Godzilla. What do you think of these Thor: Ragnarok designs? Clearly Korg had a less welcoming look than he did in the final cut. Was it for the best? Sound off in the comments!
Now in theaters, Marvel Studios‘ Thor: Ragnarok is directed by Taika Waititi and stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Karl Urban as Skurge, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk and Anthony Hopkins as Odin.
