‘Thor: Ragnarok’: Cosplayers Inspired Hela’s Look In The Film

Cate Blanchett is making her debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the villain Hela in Thor: Ragnarok. We recently got our first look at the character and she looks pretty darn menacing.

Hela, the Asgardian God of Death, is usually seen sporting a headdress in the comics. However, for the film’s look, Blanchett was curious about what the villain would look like without the headdress. When speaking with Yahoo, Blanchett revealed that the Marvel fanbase had a lot to do with Hela’s unique look.

“When I was starting to think about how she might look, I went back to the fanbase, all these girls were doing Hela makeup looks on YouTube. I thought about what their takes on her were. I spoke to Marvel about what she would look like when she would be unmasked, so she wasn’t a faceless, generic baddie. They were very open to everything.”

It’d be very unlikely to see Hela in a mask considering that an Oscar-winning actress is portraying her. Blanchett’s star power speaks volumes and Marvel would prefer to showcase her rather than hide her behind a mask.

In Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok – the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization – at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger – the Incredible Hulk!

Directed by Taika Waititi, the film stars Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Cate Blanchett, Tom Hiddleston, Tessa Thompson, Idris Elba, Karl Urban, Anthony Hopkins, and Jeff Goldblum.

Thor: Ragnarok hits cinemas on November 3, 2017.
