Thor: Ragnarok star Karl Urban recently addressed the possibility of him playing another character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe aside from Skurge.
Plenty of actors have played a variation of Marvel characters and DC characters on the big screen. Most recently, Josh Brolin played Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War and Cable in Deadpool 2, which hit theaters only weeks apart from one another. Brolin also played the lead role of the 2010 Jonah Hex film co-starring Megan Fox. When you have an actor as talented as Brolin, of course, fans would want to see him play any number of comic book characters.
The same goes for Karl Urban, who has won over the hearts of fans by portraying Leonard ‘Bones’ McCoy in the most recent Star Trek films, as well as the titular Judge in 2012’s Dredd, which failed at the box office but earned a huge following after hitting home video. His most recent foray into comic book films was Thor: Ragnarok, where he played the character Skurge. Urban recently attended Dallas Fan Days 2018 and was asked whether or not he would like to play another character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This is what the star had to say, via Comicbook.com.
“That’s a really great question. I don’t know, I haven’t even thought about the possibility of doing anything else in that world. And I don’t know if you even can, once you play something in the Marvel Universe, I don’t know if you can come back and be someone else. Can you?”
While many actors have played different comic characters in different universes, rarely has it happened with the same actor as different characters in the MCU. It’s not unheard of though, such as two actors from Spider-Man: Homecoming. In the film, Martin Starr plays a teacher and Kenneth Choi plays the school principal. Starr also had a cameo in The Incredible Hulk and Choi played one of the Howling Commandos in Captain America: The First Avenger.
Alfre Woodard is also known for playing the woman who confronts Tony Stark at the beginning of Captain America: Civil War, as well as Mariah Dillard in the Luke Cage series, though the MCU has yet to acknowledge the Marvel/Netflix shows. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all news regarding the Marvel Cinematic Universe as soon as more information becomes available. What character would you like to see Urban play in the MCU aside from Thor: Ragnarok‘s Skurge? Do you think it would be too distracting? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
