The recently released Thor: Ragnarok brought a big helping of comedy to the world of Marvel’s thunder god. That comedy seems to come naturally to director Taika Waititi. As well as steering the franchise in a more comedic direction from his director’s chair, Waititi starred as one of the film’s funniest characters. Korg, one of the warriors Thor encounters on Sakaar, is a rock-bodied alien and failed revolutionary. Waititi gives Korg a soft voice and friendly manner that are at odds with his stony appearance. The character becomes Ragnarok‘s comic relief, happily warning Thor of his impending doom and generally brightening the mood of many a dark moment.
Jasin Boland, the film’s still photographer, recently shared a look at Waititi bringing Korg to life, minus CGI magic. The image, posted to Boland’s Twitter account, shows Waititi in a motion capture suit with a cutout Korg head on his hat. Interestingly, the image of Korg that Waititi wore shows a rather more menacing design than was used in the finished film. Probably taken from early concept art, this image gives Korg deep-set pale eyes and a monstrous scowl. Perhaps it was decided this was a little too at odds with Korg’s friendly demeanour?

7 Comic Book Characters Who Have Lost An Eye
Everyone knows the famous expression “I can do that with one eye closed!” Well, for some people, it’s more than an expression — it’s a way of life. Everything from a paper airplane to a speck of dust can cause humans to lose an eye and sport an eye patch for the rest of their lives. Technology is improving to the point where glass eyes and prosthetics are looking more normal than ever before, and with google glasses who really cares how many eyes someone has as long as they are constantly ingesting information?
Comic book characters, even the helpless civilians, are used to bad things happening. Alien invasions or superhero wars seem to be a common occurrence in both the Marvel and DC Universe, but there’s something else that’s common too. It doesn’t matter what comic universe you look at, there is a character in every world who has lost an eye. At the end of the day, eye patches are too damn cool to only be used when a book features a pirate. Losing an eye may suck for these characters, but it usually boosts their aesthetic appeal and gives them a new emotional pain to latch onto as they move forward.
