We’ve known for a while now that Thor: Ragnarok would begin filming on July 4th at the Village Roadshow Studios in Australia and it looks like the project has finally kicked off production. Marvel Studios co-president Louis D’Esposito took to Twitter earlier today to announce that the movie has officially begun filming. Here’s the tweet:
Best of luck to @TaikaWaititi and the whole cast and crew of #ThorRagnarok . July 4 they started filming. Australia is in the future.

The cast of Thor: Ragnarok features Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Sir Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and Karl Urban as Skurge.
Director Taika Waititi recently said the following about working with Marvel Studios and the rest of the team behind the project:
“I’ve been hanging out with Chris and I’ve been working on the script with the writer, designing swords and things and looking at pieces of armour. I am an outside choice for Thor for sure – even I see that – but that’s what’s good about Marvel, what’s great about it. They’re able to do that and it’s paid off for them – getting people who aren’t the natural choice. You see it again and again, so I’m very comfortable in the role. I’m weirdly relaxed.”
Thor: Ragnarok opens in theaters on November 3, 2017. Are you excited?
