The latest trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home might just tease Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s return.
Sony and Marvel Studios finally unleashed the multiverse last night when they released the brand new trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home. The new trailer put the emphasis on some of Spidey’s most iconic cinematic villains, including Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, and Electro. We also saw brief glimpses of Sandman and the Lizard joining in for the final money shot, which saw almost all the villains leaping at Spider-Man.
Despite the blow-out sale of Spidey villains, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were notably missing from the trailer. Rumors have suggested for over a year that the previous Peter Parkers have been tapped to reprise their roles for Spider-Man: No Way Home. Maguire, Garfield, and even Holland have denied the rumored appearances despite mounting evidence suggesting otherwise. In fact, the latest trailer might even spoil their return… kind of.
The international version of the trailer features brief extended footage of Spider-Man leaping at his villains. During the final climactic shot, where all the villains are rushing at Spidey, the Lizard can be seen squirming in mid-air, almost as if he has been hit or kicked. It’s a notably awkward moment as there’s nothing that appears to be in front of him, or beside him.
This little “goof” has led fans to speculate that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men are in the finale of the film and that they’ve been edited out from the final product. This wouldn’t be the first time where Marvel Studios has pulled a trick off like this. The trailers for Avengers: Infinity War teases Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk joining in on the final assault against Thanos in Wakanda. However, the released film showed Ruffalo in the Hulkbuster suit, as the character had grown anxious of being the Hulk.
