Joker director Todd Phillips has responded to a fan who criticized the Joaquin Phoenix film on social media.
Todd Phillips’ Joker is set to deliver a new take on the classic Batman villain and acclaimed actor Joaquin Phoenix has been tasked with bringing this new incarnation of the character to life. While most are at least curious to see what Todd Phillips has envisioned for the character, one displeased fan took to Instagram to explain his grievances in response to the director’s recently unveiled photo of Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker.
In a detailed comment, the user suggested Todd Phillips pick up a comic book and noted the Joker’s skin is traditionally white due to acid exposure and that the character had previously been depicted a failed comedian as opposed to a clown, as appears to be the case in the Joaquin Phoenix film. In response, Todd Phillips simply offered the following advice to the disgruntled fan: “You may wanna skip this one.”

“Joker” centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck (Phoenix), a man disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.
Directed by Todd Phillips from a script he co-wrote with Scott Silver, Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham.
