Joaquin Phoenix reprises his role as Arthur Fleck in the forthcoming DC sequel Joker 2. Todd Phillips, the director of the original film and its follow-up, recently shared a new glimpse of Phoenix in character on Instagram.

Todd Phillips’ Instagram caption alludes to the legacy of the first Joker film, hinting at more to come. “Oct. 4. Thanks for all the messages. Four years ago we had quite a ride. Lots of great memories. More to come,” he writes.

The Joker 2 image depicts Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck amidst a rainfall. His face is lifted towards the sky and his eyes are closed, sans the protection of an umbrella amidst a crowd shielded from the downpour. You can check it out below.

Joker followed Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck as he transformed into the Clown Prince of Crime and Folie á Deux now looks set to show Harleen Quinzel following him into madness, with Lady Gaga playing the DC Comics villain. Phoenix earned an Oscar for his work as The Joker.

What can audiences expect from the Joker sequel?

After the first film ended with Arthur Fleck in Arkham State Hospital, it’s likely that – as in previous iterations – Harleen Quinzel will start out as the Joker’s psychiatrist. Plot details are being kept under wraps but a significant chunk of the sequel is expected to take place within Arkham.

Todd Phillips is directing Joker: Folie à Deux from a script he co-wrote alongside Scott Silver, who also worked on the original. The cast of Folie à Deux also features Brendan Gleeson, Zazie Beetz, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland and Harry Lawtey.

The first Joker movie is currently available on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, DVD and digital formats. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the sequel and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
