Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is rumored to have to assisted Sony with Tom Hardy’s Venom, according to a report by Deadline.

While Sony’s Venom may have been critically lambasted, the Tom Hardy film ultimately grossed $856.1 million worldwide and launched a new cinematic universe of Marvel characters.

Although Venom was not a part of Marvel Studios separate cinematic universe, Deadline’s report on the recent Sony and Disney Spider-Man split suggested Kevin Feige lent his creative talent to the Tom Hardy film.

According to the report, Marvel Studios’ president Kevin Feige “lent an unofficial hand” in the early stages on Sony’s Venom, though details on his involvement were not specified. However, this could simply be a rumor as Deadline’s line about Kevin Feige’s role in Tom Hardy’s Venom has since been removed from the original report.

Sony’s Venom 2 is officially moving forward with Tom Hardy and Michelle Williams reprising their respective roles. The sequel will be directed by Andy Serkis from a script written by Kelly Marcel. Here is the official synopsis for the first film:

The evolution story of Marvel’s most enigmatic, complex and badass character – Venom! Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) is a broken man after he loses everything including his job and fiancée. Just when his life is at its lowest, he becomes host to an alien symbiote which results in extraordinary superpowers – transforming him into Venom. Will these powers be enough for this new lethal protector to defeat great evil forces, especially against the far stronger and more weaponized symbiote rival, Riot?

Directed by Ruben Fleischer from a script written by Jeff Pinkner & Scott Rosenberg and Kelly Marcel, Venom stars Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, Reid Scott, Jenny Slate, Ron Cephas Jones, and Woody Harrelson.

Venom is now available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack, and DVD.
