Tom Hiddleston Talks His Long-Awaited Return As Loki In ‘Thor: Ragnarok’

It’s a great time to be Tom Hiddleston but of course, you could say that really at any moment and it would be true. With an Emmy nomination for his performance in the The Night Manager miniseries to his name, now Hiddleston is putting the black, stringy Loki wig back on his head for the fourth time as cameras roll on Thor: Ragnarok. While speaking with EW about The Night Manager and its Emmy nominations, talk turn to Thor 3 and the return of Loki, years in the making.

Hiddleston had only recently arrived on the Australian set of the film when the interview took place on early morning Friday and wasted no time getting into fisticuffs (thankfully, in character, although maybe for some method acting he could take a swing at Hemsworth).

It is actually a fight day tomorrow. I don’t think I’m fighting specifically him, however. Spoiler alert! But that’s all I will tell you. I’ve been here for 10 days. We’re really just at the beginning. I think they officially started filming just last week. It’s great. I’m having such a good time. Taika Waititi is brilliant, and his vision for his Thor film is so full of wit and humor and drama. He’s really been so attentive over the screenplay. I’m so excited. It’s a hell of a cast. It’s got quite a lineup.

As with most blockbusters, filming is staggered according to weather, scheduling and numerous other concerns so rarely do the entire film team commiserate in one place. While filming has been ongoing for a couple weeks, actors continue to trickle onto set.

[Laughs.] There are some heavy hitters in the lineup, and not everyone is here yet. It’s Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Tessa Thompson, and myself. We’ve got some others coming. Thus far, it’s really fun. And also, it’s been three years since I’ve played. I think I last wore the costume at Comic-Con in 2013. It was 2012 when we wrapped The Dark World. It’s just been a long time, and to don the black hair and leather and all of Loki’s stuff is good fun.

You can check out Hiddleston donning said wig directly from the Ragnarok set in the Loki dressing room in the video below. Posted by UNICEFIreland the actor promotes a social media campaign aimed at raising awareness for the education of children in emergencies. You can help by sharing #EmergencyLessons and your favorite school activity. You’ll never guess Hiddleston’s . . . acting in plays.

Sometimes, dreams really do become careers.

Thor: Ragnarok stars Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Hiddleston, Tessa Thompson, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba, Jaimie Alexander, Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum and Karl Urban. It hits theaters November 3, 2017.
