Tom Holland recently opened up about working with Alfred Molina as Doc Ock in the upcoming Marvel film, Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Alfred Molina made his debut as Doc Ock in the 2004 film, Spider-Man 2 which is often regarded as the best film in the franchise. In particular, his battle with everyone’s favorite wall-crawler on the train is often cited as the best action scene to feature Spider-Man. At the end of the second film, the character regains control of his senses and sacrifices himself in order to save New York City from an experiment gone horribly wrong. Now the actor is set to return as the character for Tom Holland’s upcoming film.
Relatively early on, it was revealed that Alfred Molina would be returning as Doc Ock for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. The actor himself not only confirmed this but revealed that he was, in fact, the same character from Spider-Man 2. The big highlight of the Far From Home trailer was seeing the actor as the iconic antagonist at its end.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Tom Holland talked about working with Alfred Molina in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Specifically, he cited how the technology had changed from puppets in Spider-Man 2 to CGI:
“It was really fun to watch him see how technology has advanced. When he was making these films, the arms were puppets, and when we did it, they’re all imaginary and CG. It was quite cool to see him relive it, but also relearn it.”
Here is the synopsis for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home:
“For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero is unmasked and no longer able to separate his normal life from the high-stakes of being a Super Hero. When he asks for help from Doctor Strange the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man.”
