Tom Holland tried to save the Marvel Studios Spider-Man deal by making several appeals to Disney and Sony heads.

The future of Spider-Man was in serious doubt when it was announced that Marvel Studios and Sony couldn’t come to an agreement to renew their deal to keep Tom Holland in the MCU. Although all hope was lost, ultimately a new deal was made and it turns out we may have to thank a certain web head.

It turns out that Tom Holland was the one responsible for saving Marvel Studios and Sony’s Spider-Man deal. According to THR, Tom Holland made several appeals to Disney CEO Bob Iger and Sony film Chairman Tom Rothman. After his appearance at D23, Tom Holland used his diplomacy skills and leaned on Rothman to re-engage with Disney. The Spider-Man actor used his role in Uncharted as leverage forcing Tom Rothman back to the table.

Last week, Sony and Marvel Studios announced that they have officially come to an agreement to renew their contract to keep Tom Holland in the MCU as Spider-Man. Along with the renewal came the announcement that a third Spider-Man film starring Tom Holland would hit theaters July 16th, 2021. The new deal will also have Tom Holland appear in an upcoming Marvel Studios film as Spider-Man.
