Disney CEO Bob Iger discussed Tom Holland’s drunk plea to keep Spider-Man in the MCU in a recent interview.
Earlier this year, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man avoided being removed from the MCU after Disney and Sony were able to reach a new agreement to continue co-producing the Marvel hero’s live-action movies. Later, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that the negotiations were able to resume partly because of a phone conversation between himself and Tom Holland, who was eager to ensure Spider-Man remained an integral part of the MCU.
However, Tom Holland himself would later reveal that he was actually drunk when he received the now-famous call from the Disney CEO about Spider-Man’s MCU future. During an interview with US Weekly, Disney CEO Bob Iger explained that he couldn’ tell if Tom Holland was drunk during their phone call until the Spider-Man star admitted it later on:
“I couldn’t tell if he was drunk, but I called him because I knew that he was upset and he wanted to talk to me about the status of Spider-Man. And at the time that I called him, he was at a pub in, I think, London with his family, and he said, ‘If it’s noisy, I just stepped out of a pub. He sounded a little giddy, but I didn’t really make that connection until I read recently that he said he was a little bit drunk. But he was perfectly nice on the phone. We had a good conversation.”
Fortunately, Tom Holland’s inebriation didn’t seem to negatively impact Spider-Man’s status in the MCU, as the Disney CEO said, “I immediately got on the phone afterward and started trying.”
