Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad received mixed reactions from fans and critics but one thing everyone appeared to agree upon was the excitement surrounding the women in DC properties. Diana Prince/Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) was a standout in Batman v Superman and Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) won fans over in Squad.
Next year, the women will take center stage for DC. 2017 will mark the first time that Wonder Woman will appear in her own solo movie and the second trailer has arrived!
This trailer shows off more of the storyline, Diana herself and the intense level of action that this Warner Bros. film plans to bring to the big screen. You can check it out below.

10. Connection to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
During Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Bruce Wayne encounters Diana and finds a picture of her back from World War 1. During the opening moments of this trailer, audiences see that photo once again. Gal Gadot’s voiceover begins, “I used to want to save the world… this beautiful place. The closer you get, the more you see the great darkness within.” Wonder Woman will be an origin story for Diana and likely indicates how she became who she is when we are first introduced to her in Batman v Superman.
This showcases the fact that DCEU is fully connected and storylines will be interacting across the different films. It’s also a great call back to Batman v Superman, reminding audiences that there is a lot more to come in the DCEU.
9. “The War To End All Wars”
Upon Diana rescuing Steve Trevor (as seen in the first trailer), Trevor addresses the Amazonian’s explaining that they are all in grave danger, even if they don’t believe it. When he is asked what his mission is, his answer is clear,”To end the war. The war to end all wars.” Instantly this connects with Diana’s desire to save people. This trailer gives a much better view of Chris Pine’s character and how he will play into the story, as a lead character but also fully supporting his female co-star Gal Gadot. The two appear to have chemistry and Pine is able to show off his developing action skills in this second trailer.
8. Themyscira
Themyscira is a special location for Wonder Woman fans. It’s a hidden island where Amazon women have survived for centuries, including Diana. In the opening of this trailer, we see Themyscira on a grand scale. The visual styles of this film that Patty Jenkins is using start to emerge and showcase the Amazon women front and center. Audiences see Diana’s mother, Queen Hippolyta and General Antiope (Robin Wright).
If anyone had any doubt, Wonder Woman isn’t shying away from its comic book roots and putting women front and center.
7. Diana’s Origin
Patty Jenkins has said that this film will be an origin story for Diana and this trailer provides more of that set up. After encountering Steve Trevor and learning about World War I taking place, Diana feels the need to help. “I cannot stand by while innocent lives are lost.”
She is also seen fully embracing her powers, complete with being bulletproof and owning her golden lasso.
6. Villains Profiled
This trailer also provided audiences with more clues towards who the main villain will be in Wonder Woman. Elena Anaya is seen and appears to be playing Dr. Poison.
5. Action, Action, Action
Wonder Woman isn’t going to go light on the action sequences. This second trailer really showcases that action and Gadot kicking ass will dominate the screen. Patty Jenkins has embraced the character from the comic books and translated her in a way that showcases not only her femininity but power. From the alleyway shoot out to the final action montage, Gadot’s proving she is up to the task both physically and emotionally.
4. Romance
In only a few flashes, the relationship between Diana and Trevor starts to flourish. Their passion can be seen on screen and their romance brings in another element to the Wonder Woman film.
3. Historical Setting
This trailer has a completely different feel compared to that of Batman v Superman or Suicide Squad because it’s set in a different time period, World War I. The set pieces look detailed and the costumes help to transform audiences back in time and history.
2. Lighter Tone
DC films have been heavily criticized due to their intense and dark tone. Take for example, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and even in parts Suicide Squad. While it’s clear Wonder Woman has an intense action feel, throughout the trailer lighter notes and humor can be found.
From interactions between Diana and Steve Trevor’s secretary (the ending scene especially) to Diana and Steve interacting, it appears that this film will have a lighter tone overall. Even when it comes to the color schemes, Wonder Woman feels bright and empowered
1. Gal Gadot
It goes without saying but the true winner of this trailer is Gal Gadot as Diana/Wonder Woman. She commands the screen and appears to have fully embraced this character not only with her physical presence but with her tone and subtle details.
Gal Gadot is here and ready to re-energize the DCEU. This will be the first time that Wonder Woman is featured in her own solo movie on the big screen and now all that is left is for fans to wait until June 2, 2017.
