Michael Bay’s fifth (yeah, talk about commitment) installment in his most successful series of films, Transformers: The Last Knight is currently in principal photography, and recent photos have revealed actors filming on the Scottish Isle of Skye. When it comes to bringing the stories of these films to the big screen, it’s safe to say they have reached numerous levels of bizarre territory, and according to a recent report from the BBC, this exceeds the bizarreness meter passed 11.
According to the report, Transformers: The Last Knight may have a connection to the medieval legend of King Arthur. In these new photos from the Scottish set, actors have been seen wearing medieval costumes while riding on horseback. This indicates that their may be at least one flashback scene in the newest film.
There have been recent rumors that the film would tie-in to this mythology, and this report adds credence to them. Cinema Blend had previously reported that the fictional wizard Merlin may have had a relationship with the robots and might’ve even received his powers from an ancient Transformer.
Even as someone who has felt the law of diminishing returns when it comes to new Transformers movies, I cannot help but feel oddly intrigued at how far this fifth entry is going on a narrative standpoint. At first glance, I find it profoundly peculiar but at the same time, I am reminded that this is a franchise about giant robots that transform. Color me interested.
Transformers: The Last Knight opens in theaters on June 23, 2017.
