The upcoming Transformers reboot could be based on the 1990s cartoon, Beast Wars.
Earlier today it was announced that Paramount was developing two new Transformers films. While details for the films are still vague, one will apparently take place in the Bumblebee universe with the other functioning as more of a wide-scale reboot of the franchise. According to Deadline, that reboot could take the form of a Beast Wars series.
Beast Wars was a spinoff of the Transformers series that functioned as a sequel to the iconic series. Taking place several centuries after the events of the original Transformers, Beast Wars focused on a new set of Transformers who crashlanded on to an apparently alien planet. Without anyone to stop them the new Transformers, known as the Maximals and the Predacons, went to war against one another, calling the new conflict the Beast Wars. The series debuted in 1996 before ending in 1999 with a new series, titled Beast Machines: Transformers serving as a sequel series to Beast Wars.
