Tyrese Gibson Goes Viral After Posting Fake Martin Scorsese ‘Morbius’ Review

The actor thought Scorsese called Morbius "the truest height of cinema."

Tyrese Gibson, who appears as Agent Simon Stroud in Sony’s Morbius, shared a glowing review of the film from Martin Scorses on Instagram, apparently not realizing it was fake.

In a now deleted post, Tyrese Gibson shared the fake quote alongside an equally fake image of acclaimed director Martin Scorsese at the Morbius premiere. Scorsese gained notoriety amongst Marvel fans with comments he made in 2019, claiming Marvel movies were “not cinema.” The fake review, which Gibson then reposted, drew on Scorsese’s now infamous comments to poke fun at Morbius, which has flopped spectacularly with critics.

The review read “I was aghast to find out it was based on a comic book. This is the truest height of cinema and even I cannot top it. A wise man admits when he is wrong and I was wrong, I apologize to all comic book movies.” Scorsese’s supposed awe at a movie that has broadly failed to impress audiences, along with him rescinding his earlier comments, probably should have given Tyrese Gibson some pause for thought before he shared the review, but apparently the actor bought it.

Alongside the review and image of Martin Scorsese, Gibson wrote “Wow wow wow I can’t believe what just happened whoa……. Cheers and hats off to you [Morbius director Daniel Espinosa] this is so amazing King! This is the KING of KINGS of cinema Martin Scorsese this is huge…….” The actor’s excitement was apparently short-lived, as the post was soon taken down, although not until after it had already received over 4000 likes. Maybe Gibson wasn’t the only one who was fooled.

Here is the synopsis for Morbius:

One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed and transforms this healer into a hunter.
