Danish actor Ulrich Thomsen has been cast as Sinestro, the iconic DC Comics villain, in HBO’s upcoming Lanterns series, according to Deadline. The show is part of the DC Universe slate being developed by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
A former Green Lantern Corps member who becomes one of their greatest adversaries, Sinestro is a key figure in Green Lantern mythology. Thomsen joins a cast led by Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, with the series promising to deliver a grounded, mystery-driven take on the Green Lantern Corps.
What to expect from the Green Lantern HBO series
Lanterns was one of the first projects announced under James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe slate. Gunn described the series as a grounded, Earth-based mystery similar to HBO’s True Detective, with Hal Jordan and John Stewart uncovering a “terrifying mystery” connected to the larger DC Universe. With Aaron Pierre set to portray John Stewart, Chandler’s Hal Jordan is expected to play a significant role as his mentor.
Production on Lanterns is slated to begin in early 2025, with anticipation steadily building for the show’s debut on HBO. As one of the key titles in the new DC Universe, Lanterns will mark a key step in reintroducing Green Lantern to audiences after the 2011 movie, with Chandler and Pierre leading the charge in bringing Hal Jordan and John Stewart to life.
Lanterns does not yet have a release date. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe
