Riz Ahmed Refuses To Answer Questions About Carnage In Venom

Venom star Riz Ahmed recently gave some interesting answers regarding the possibility of him playing Carnage and having a bigger role in the Marvel universe.

The upcoming Venom movie is set to release in just a couple short weeks and although the trailers feature plenty of action and monster mayhem, there are still of questions to be answered in the film. Spider-Man villain Carnage, given his link to fellow symbiote Venom, has been long-rumored to be making an appearance in the anti-hero’s solo film. Riz Ahmed was once rumored to be playing the character but it has since confirmed that the actor will be playing the character Carlton Drake, who will eventually turn into the symbiote villain Riot by the end of the film.

Ahmed recently sat down with Entertainment Weekly to discuss his upcoming projects, including Venom. During the interview, Ahmed was asked whether or not he’d be playing Carnage in Venom and you can check out his answer below, which isn’t as straight-forward as you might think.

“I can confirm I’ll be acting in Venom [laughs].”

Given that his character his prominently featured in the promotional material for the film, you may think that Ahmed would clearly say “No, I’m not playing that character I’m actually playing THIS character”, but instead his answer was a bit ambiguous. Director Ruben Fleischer recently hinted that Venom would feature a post-credits scene, so it’s possible that the tease could feature a defeated Drake turning into Carnage with a vengeance, but that’s just a theory and has not been confirmed. Ahmed was then asked if he’d be playing a larger role in the Marvel universe down the line and he gave another understandably ambiguous response.

“You’ll have to ask the guys at Marvel [laughs some more].”

Ahmed could just be teasing and having some fun with the film’s secrecy but it’s response to the first question is very intriguing. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all news regarding Venom as more information becomes available. Are you excited for the iconic DC anti-hero to headline his own film?
